F-REP – Women in Fisheries & Seafood

This F-REP is being developed by and for women working in the UK commercial fisheries & seafood sector

17th-20th NOVEMBER – APPLY FOR YOUR PLACE HERE

Why an F-REP for women?

FITF have run four F-REPs in the last two years, and over 10 similar events since 2015 – each with a different focus.

Whilst women are in the minority when it comes to working in visible roles on fishing boats, they occupy many direct and less visible roles in fish capture, trading, processing, management, administration, families and communities. Research in the UK shows that women contribute socially, economically and emotionally to the resilience of fishing businesses, families and places, and they have a strong sense of belonging and are active in their communities [1,2].

This F-REP will be targeted towards women from across UK fisheries tsupport the role they play in the future to deliver long-term sustainable and prosperous fisheries. Women use, understand, and value natural resources differently and evidence shows meaningful inclusion of women leads to more sustainable outcomes [3], and this F-REP will support getting women’s perspectives included in fisheries management

We will share knowledge, develop skills & create connections to build a more resilient industry, thriving communities, and abundant resources for future generations, for all.

How can I attend?

The agenda will be developed and delivered by a team put together by FITF and UK Women in Fisheries, and include a mix of informal learning and knowledge-sharing, practical exercises, games, eating and socialising together.

Register your interest by filling out this form or contact us at Fishing into the Future to tell us about yourself and why you would like to participate. Apply by 15th September and we’ll get back to you soon after to let you know if you have a place.

This is a collaborative event, and financial support is available for participation and to cover time and associated costs.
